New England Interior Design Studio, LLC believes it is our social responsibility as a design firm to use our knowledge of sustainable materials and products to create an environmentally friendly living and working space. We strive to reduce or eliminate the use of products that contribute to the toxic soup many people unknowingly live in. New England Interior Design Studio follows the seven R’s of green design: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, Remove, Repair and Respect. By incorporating these fundamentals into our designs we are able to produce a “Healthy Home for Comfortable Living”. These ideals can be achieved through the use of the following products:
We are able, as designers, to create a union between good design and environmentally friendly design. We have many local vendors we rely on to help us reduce our footprint on the planet. Green Tip of the Month: Many plastic shower curtains and liners are made of PVC, and if you've had one, you most likely got hit with its characteristic new-shower-curtain-smell the minute you pulled it out of the package. The smell comes from up to one hundred toxic chemicals including phthalates. Recent studies have shown that adult men with average amounts of phthalates, chemicals that give PVC that soft quality, had lower levels of testosterone and estrogen in their systems. Babies are also at risk as phthalates can pass from pregnant women to their unborn babies. Dibutylin, a chemical used in PVC, can affect immune response.
